Compositions

Composition in Kuyavian embroidery is compact and rhythmic. Twigs interweave with flowers. On the collars or ruffs, small flower motifs and holes run along the outer edge. On smooth and wide aprons, embroidery is composed as a band along the sides, along the bottom and at the end of the ties. Petticoats are decorated rhythmically with repeating small flowers, twigs and holes in the bottom part of gusset or the frill. The heads of bonnet are covered with compact compositions in the central or stripe system consisting of short twigs, small leaves and flowers.

Embroidery on table linen is composed in accordance with the use nature of the object. Tablecloth is usually embroidered with a band (as on aprons) placed at a short distance (15–20 cm) from the edge. On table runners, the motifs are found along the shorter sides, while the middle is free of any motifs. If the table runner is only of decorative nature, the composition can run through the middle of the length. Small napkins (single ones or making part of coffee sets) are decorated with small flowers or twigs in one corner only.
